Running the Cygolite Metro 420 on the steady and blink mode is good when you ride in traffic. This casts a solid beam in the center while flashing lights draw attention so people will look up to see what it is. If you are riding on rural roads or off-road, the solid beam bright setting should illuminate very well. There is also a solid beam low setting that is probably good when riding as the sunlight starts to fade and saves power as well.
